Muffin Trickery
Monday, December 27, 2010

My kids can put away some muffins.   I generally buy "just add water" muffin mix.  But I decided over Christmas break, when things go a little slower in the mornings, we would cook ourselves some muffins from scratch!

I found this basic recipe and made plans to cook our way through several variations: lemon, blueberry, chocolate chip, cinnamon-fig.

Wait.  CINNAMON-FIG?!?  Yep.  Cinnamon-fig.  I was given a large quantity of figs, and seeing as how I can't get anyone to eat them, I concocted a plan to sneak them in a batch of muffins, and try to pass the muffins off as "cinnamon-raisin".  Parental trickery with full intentions of coming clean AFTER they ate them.  (My Uncle Craig performed the same style of trickery on me when I was their age and I insisted I hated deer meat.  He told me after my 2nd helping of "roast" what I was actually eating.)

So I cooked them up....slapped on a generous amount of butter....and the kids scarfed them down.  Not gonna lie.  Trickery feels good.

Starr, I just read about six or seven posts. You are cracking me up!
Please tell me that if I ever do move back to Lubbock that we'll at least have coffee together??

You're funny. And cool. Good combo.

Happy New Year!!

Oh, and I like your fig-trickery.
veeery smart mama.

I have a friend whose kids wouldn't eat their veggies.
She pureed everything she had, added all kinds of ketchup and worstershire (sp?) sauces, bottled it, and told them it was "magic sauce". They've eaten it on nearly every meal since.

eeeewwwwww......serious trickery

Pure genious is you ask me. I've done the deer meat trick on my brother in law... Never knew the difference. It's all in the seasoning, or muffin mix ;) lol
