Lost in Laundry

We've done zero decorating in our bedroom since moving into this house nearly a year ago. I'm moving at a snails pace when it comes to decor anywhere in the house actually, buying a few things here and there as I have the money and when I find a good deal.

I didn't have immediate plans to do anything with our bedroom....but! Then! Then I found this comforter on sale for $25:

Ignore the wrinkles. It's freshly out of the bag. And since I have no plans to iron a comforter (puh-lease!), the wrinkles will be our bedroom guests for a few months til they fall out.

I thought $25 was a great deal, since I especially liked the colors and pattern.

I decided to paint my own coordinating artwork.

[Cue menacing, vibrating organ music, signaling impending doom. Duum, duum, dumm!]

[Except...wait! Sound track edit! Cue light, springy piano music, because it turned out pretty decent! Sorta cute even!]

I painted two 16x20 inch canvases. Trying to mimic the comforter, I painted the bottom third a solid earth tone, the top two thirds a light wheat color, then used a stencil to create a leaf design.

Stenciling.

Why yes, that is a hair dryer in the background. And yes, I did blow-dry my artwork.
I have three kids. Gotta hurry these things along.

So...it was a fun project...and I'm pretty happy with the results.....

Except in the end, it doesn't match the comforter. I had this grand DIY artwork idea on a whim when I saw the canvases on sale for $5 bucks at Hobby Lobby; the paint colors I picked to match the comforter....don't.

So I have to find another home for them besides the bedroom. Drat.

My artistically inclined mom is visiting Lubbock later this month. I plan to have her free hand some vines and leaves to match the pattern on the comforter, and I'll try again. I'll take a pillow sham to the paint section with me this time, and hopefully have a little better luck coordinating colors.
