What a neat idea, Starr! That is cool. Will your lesson revolve around a book each time you meet? If so, I have a few good ideas for books:
Jesus Must be Really Special by Jennie Bishop - then you could do a craft like one thing mentioned in the book (squeezing toothpaste out of a (mini)tube and challenging the kids to put it back in - impossible. Then talk about our words and how they are impossible to take back once we say them. Then the kids could "paint" a picture using toothpaste for paint and a toothbrush for the brush. You could probaly get some generous dentist to donate toothpaste and toothbrushes for the kids to take home - he he
I'd be Your Princess/ I'd be Your Hero by Kathryn O'Brien - I bought these books for my kids a while back. It talks about all the things that a little "hero" or "princess" would do and has Bible verses to go along with each thing (humility, generosity, bravery, etc) I read them to our playgroup once and brought all kinds of "props" to go along with the stories (a knight, crowns, fishing net, bugs, castle, musical instruments, etc)You could read the books, talk about the godly character traits and then have the kids make crowns like the ones worn in the book, or some other fun craft.
Snuggle Puppy by Sandra Boynton - nothing spiritual about this book, but it is my favorite short kid book for a mommy and child. You could talk about the love moms/dads have for their kiddos and then make cookie dough together (since that is what the pictures show in the book) - that would be a fun messy one.
Oh! I wish I lived in Lubbock! You will have so much fun. What a great way to meet other moms too!
I think another good book is that one by max lucado i think your special or God thinks your special. We have it but I can't find it and can't remember the name.
I am so not good with crafts, but the library has a theme each month and does a craft and song that goes with the books. And most of it could so be God-centered. She has done rain, birds, lion, puppies, chocolate, fruit (she had fruit slices for them to take home), oklahoma, insects, and lots of others.
One place to I go to when I do want extra activity pages or crafts is www.enchantedlearning.com
They have stuff on just about every subject you could think of. And most of it is geared toward preschool-k kids.
How cool!! I think that will be a big hit! I'll be sure to encourage all my frinds to go! Ii have never been to a story time so I don't have much to offer:( But I would love to offer feedback if you ever have a question. (who doen't jump at the oppertunity to express an opinion;) ) I'll be praying that the Lord will give you every detail that you need!
